Justice League Action Was Originally A Batman Cartoon

Justice League Action had started development as a Batman show

Justice League Action is premiering this month on Cartoon Network. But it started off as a very different show. We haven’t seen the Justice League in a cartoon series since the highly acclaimed Justice League/Justice League Unlimited, which ended a decade ago.

Batman is a big part of Justice League Action. And has had a number of series just starring the Dark Knight over the years. Originally, the show was planned as yet another solo series for the Caped Crusader. But producer explained how it became a series starring the entire Justice League that includes 152 characters (that’s counting heroes, villains and side characters):

"Originally, we were supposed to be doing another Batman series.  But me and Alan [Burnett] got together with the whole team and then eventually, a week later, it was suggested we do a Justice League show instead. There was a gap between a new series [and the last one], plus the new movie is coming out, so we got the go-ahead to do a Justice League series. They gave us a list at first.  That was based originally on the [New] 52 comics. The list of characters in there were what they wanted, and it was pretty much the ones everyone wants, plus some odd ones. We definitely got most of those in, plus a few that we thought of that would fit."

Justice League Action premieres on Cartoon Network December 16th at 6 p.m. Eastern/Pacific before debuting in its normal Saturday slot on December 24th. We still don’t have an idea what that regular time slot is, but I’m guessing they’ll announce it when the show debuts on December 16th. I’m very much looking forward to this show, hopefully it will continue the generally excellent legacy of DC animated shows.
