Could You Be Watching Justice League At Home While It’s Still In Theaters?
Would you pay more to watch big theatrical releases such as Justice League at home within days of it being in theaters?
There was one underlying theme of this Summer at the box office. It was pretty disappointing. There were only a few solid hits. Are people just not going to the theatre as much anymore? What does that mean for upcoming movies such as Justice League that really need to hit big revenues in order to get success with theatre audiences stagnating and home video revenues dropping as well?
Another revenue stream is the obvious answer. But what would that be? According to Bloomberg, it would be the ability to see movies mere days after they are in theaters, but at a premium price.
Studios such as Warner Bros. and Fox are in talks with Apple about being able to watch movies at home as little as two weeks after they hit theaters. And this is just one idea. Sean Parker, founder of Napster, has a new startup called Screening Room is also exploring a two week option, but is also looking to offer same day service. So assuming all went as planned, you could be watching Justice League or similar movies the day is out in theaters without leaving your house in a perfectly legal manner.
As expected, there is a premium price tag attached to such an idea. Such a rental could cost anywhere from $25-$50. That sounds high, sure. But you could easily end up spending that much on a ticket and food at a theatre, especially if you are paying for more than one person.

As someone who often pays for tickets and food (and sometimes bus fare) for people other than myself when going to the movies, this could actually be hugely appealing. It’s not just convenient, it could actually end up saving me money. What do you think, would you pay a premium to watch something like Justice League or any big budget films in the comfort of your home? Let us know in the comments!
