Suicide Squad Soundtrack Nominated For 5 Grammys
The Suicide Squad soundtrack has been nominated for a total of 5 Grammys
While it might have not been a critical smash, Suicide Squad has had a pretty good year. It was one of the top performers in the Summer box office, and the soundtrack went gold, which was the only movie soundtrack to do so this year.
And the success of the soundtrack isn’t going unnoticed by the Grammys. The Suicide Squad Soundtrack has a total of 5 nominations in 4 categories. The soundtrack itself is nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media. “Purple Lamborghini” by Skirllex and Rick Ross has been nominated for Best Song Written For Visual Media. And finally, the song “Heathens” by Twenty-One pilots is the big potential winner here, with 3 nominations. It’s nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song, but is also going up against “Purple Lamborghini” for Best Song Written For A Visual Media.

You can get the full list of Grammy Nominees here. In any year, it’s a tough competition. But I feel “Heathens” is going to lose out in the Best Rock Performance & Best Rock Song categories because the legendary David Bowie, who passed away earlier this year, is nominated in both those and it’s hard to not see them honoring Bowie by giving him a couple of posthumous Grammys. I also feel like the chances for the overall Suicide Squad album in Best Compilation Soundtrack For Visual Media are slim because it’s up against two soundtracks based on movies about music, Miles Ahead & Straight Out Of Compton. On top of that, I feel like “Try Everything” from Zootopia is a virtual shoe-in for Best song written for visual media, so I don’t think Suicide Squad is going to be able to claim it has a Grammy-winning album to add to its success. But hey, it’s a honor just to be nominated, right? The 59th annual Grammys air on CBS February 12th.
