The Reason It’s Great

Inspired by the conspiracy movies of the 1970s, director brothers Joe and Anthony Russo set out to make a Captain America movie that was more grounded. Captain America: The Winter Soldier saw the greatest patriot the world has ever known in a world where the lines of good and evil were blurred.

After Nick Fury is seemingly killed by a mysterious figure known as the Winter Soldier, Steve Rogers is called in to meet with S.H.I.E.L.D. official Alexander Pierce. Not knowing who to trust, Steve withholds information from Pierce. He is soon branded a fugitive and goes on the run seeking the truth behind Fury’s assassination.

Steve, partnered with Natasha Romanoff, later learn that Hydra infiltrated SHIELD years ago and has been controlling the agency from the shadows. With the impending launch of drone Helicarriers able to kill millions, Captain America, Natasha, and Sam Wilson must stop Pierce at all costs.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier exceeded all expectations and quickly became the highest grossing film of 2014. The film was lauded for its portrayal of current events—paranoia about government overreach and surveillance. Praise was also given to the film’s usage of practical effects over CGI and amazing stunt work.
