Kevin Smith thinks Darkseid will show up in the Justice League movie

Steppenwolf is the villain of the Justice League movie. He is a powerful villain and the leader of the armies of Apokolips. He’s sure to provide quite the challenge to DC’s mightiest heroes. But why isn’t the ruler of Apokolips in the movie? Why is the league facing Steppenwolf and not Darkseid?

Kevin Smith doesn’t have any inside knowledge of the plans for the DC Universe, but he is a huge fan. He’s even directed a few episodes of CW’s Arrowverse shows. He believes that Darkseid actually is in the movie, but Warner Bros. is holding him back and keeping him secret, as he explained on his Fatman on Batman show:

"I call bullsh*t, I think Steppenwolf is a villain of this piece, but I think we’re getting Darkseid, and I think that they’ve been keeping it from us, like the same way we didn’t know we were getting Doomsday…I think Darkseid is in this!Just give me some Darkseid…it can’t just be Steppenwolf…he’s just a pawn!"

So I think how the plan originally went is that Justice League planned as a two-part film. This was before Batman v Superman even came out. Part one would be Steppenwolf and lead into the second part where Darkseid would appear. Obviously those plans have changed, as while there is a sequel planned to Justice League, this first film is supposed to stand on its own. Could that still build to Darkseid appearing in Justice League? Certainly.

Though here is what I am guessing. One of the major marketing missteps regarding Batman v Superman was showing Doomsday in the ads. People were genuinely upset that it was spoiled for them, plus it felt like the ads had really shown you the whole movie (which they pretty much did). So if Darkseid is in the film, they aren’t going to spoil him and show him in the ads. You won’t see him until you see the movie. We’ll find out fir sure when Justice League comes out in theaters November 17th.
