Learn more about the real villains of Suicide Squad vs. Justice League in Suicide Squad #9

The first mega crossover event of Rebirth, Justice League vs. Suicide Squad, is happening right now. Of course, the Justice League and Task Force X still have their seperate ongoing titles as well. And you know what that means: tie-in issues!

Fortunately I don’t think the upcoming issue #9 of the series featuring Amanda Waller’s hand-picked team of crazy supervillains doing covert operations is completely necessary to understand what is going on in the big crossover event. However, that doesn’t mean it won’t contain some really interesting backstory worth checking out. See Suicide Squad #9 doesn’t focus on the Squad itself. Not the current Squad anyways. It’s all about those villains Maxwell Lord broke out of confinement to form his own supervillain group.

Would you be surprised to learn that Amanda Waller tried the while Task Force X thing years ago? And it was comprised of this same group of villains. Lobo, Doctor Polaris, Johnny Sorrow, Emerald Empress. They were the squad before the squad you all know today. Issue #9 of Suicide Squad goes into that story and about one member of this original squad in particular. Check out a very brief synopsis and gallery preview below:

"SUICIDE SQUAD #9 Written by ROB WILLIAMS Art and cover by RILEY ROSSMO Variant covers by LEE BERMEJO A “JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD” tie-in! Finally, discover the true history behind [REDACTED BY ORDER OF TASK FORCE X DIRECTOR AMANDA WALLER]"

So it’s about the secret history of Rustam, right? I mean who’s ever heard of that guy? In all seriousness, it’s fairly obvious that Cyclotron is the main subject, as even the introduction in the comic is redacted. Find out about Cyclotron and the original Task Force X in Suicide Squad #9, out this Wednesday, January 11th!
