According to Laurence Fishburne, it looks like Perry White won’t be making an appearance in the forthcoming Justice League.

The character of Perry White, the intrepid Editor of the Daily Planet, long became much more than just a Superman supporting character. White has become the voice of the everyman in the DC Universe. The character who looks at what is going on and can make it relatable for the readers of a great metropolitan newspaper.

White has appeared in almost every Superman live-action film as well, functioning in much the same way. He acts as the voice of reason when chaos, giant monsters and aliens are trying to take over the world.

Laurence Fishburne is the latest actor to portray Perry White. He played the character in both Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and there was some thought that he would appear in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Turns out, that won’t be the case.

In a recent interview with the LA Times, Fishburne talks about the possibility and he says that while a Perry White appearance was planned for Justice League, it never happened. In addition, he mentioned how he doesn’t understand why anyone would want to see White in the film in the first place.

"They asked me to come for a day, but I couldn’t work it out, schedule-wise. And really, what do you need the newspaperman in “Justice League” for? You want to see the Flash. You want to see Aquaman. You want to see Wonder Woman. You want to see the Lantern. We’ve been waiting 35 years for these [characters] to show up on the screen. What were they doing over there? Marvel has been kicking their ass. This is the comic-book geek in me, who has a collection of comic books. I’ve been waiting to see these people on-screen forever."

Honestly I can understand where Fishburne is coming from. While I loved him in Man of Steel, having him in Justice League just seems like overkill. There is already going to be a lot going on in Justice League. A whole lot. Continuity is fun and all, but there is such a thing as taking it too far.

The movie is called Justice League, not Justice League and every minor character who has appeared in a DC Extended Universe film.

So while Perry White being in Justice League would have been nice, I don’t think it’s going to affect whether the movie will be any good or not.

That responsibility fall squarely on the shoulders of director Snyder.
