Mr. Sinister Will Appear In The X-Men Movies At Some Point

According to X-Men producer Simon Kinberg it’s not a matter of if Mr. Sinister will appear in an X-Men movie, but when.

Mild spoilers for Logan follow. Tread with caution.

Ever since his first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #221 way back in 1987, Mr. Sinister has been one of the greatest villains in the X-Men rogue gallery. A devious, manipulative genius, Sinister has long been obsessed with Scott Summers and doing whatever it takes to control the destiny of mutantkind through genetics.

Given how visually striking Sinister is and his key role in X-Men comics over the decades, a move to the big screen at some point should have been a no brainer. However, as of yet he has been a no show. Instead 20th Century Fox has gone with characters such as Apocalypse, Lady Deathstrike, Viper and the like.

Many fans had assumed that Sinister would finally make his debut in Logan, the latest movie to join the X-Men Cinematic Universe. He made a cameo (sort of) in X-Men: Apocalypse when members of the Essex Corp arrive to collect Wolverine’s blood in the film and since Sinister’s real name is Nathaniel Essex, well, you can do the math.

However, It was recently confirmed that Mr. Sinister, while effectively setting the events of Logan in motion, does not in fact appear in the movie.

So that leaves the question of if not in Logan, when will fans finally get to see Mr. Sinister on the big screen.

Turns out that according to X-Men producer Simon Kinberg, plans are in motion for him to make his debut at some point down the road.

In a recent interview with Cinema Blend, Kinberg confirmed that there are plans for Sinister to appear, it’s just a matter of when the time will be right.

"The short answer is yes. We would love to see Sinister. I think he is one of the great untapped villains in the X-Men universe, and we do have plans to introduce him into the world."

It’s just a shame that we won’t get to see Sinister go up against Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine or Patrick Stewart’s Professor X.

So where might we see Mr. Sinister rear his head? Deadpool 2? The upcoming X-Force movie? Maybe New Mutants? Or possibly the rumored adaption of The Dark Phoenix Saga that they promise won’t suck nearly as bad as X-Men: The Last Stand?

Time will tell.

Logan arrives everywhere on March 3, 2016.
