Dr. Fate is the latest out of the box character to join the ever-growing roster of the forthcoming fighting sequel Injustice 2.

More from Video Games

Two weeks ago WB Games and DC announced that Swamp Thing was going to join the roster of playable characters in Injustice 2, the followup to the smash hit Injustice: Gods Among Us. The reveal was seen as another indication that the game would feature a much more diverse cast than the original.

Swamp Thing joined such characters as Black Canary, Cheetah and Poison Ivy as well as returning heroes such as Batman, Flash and Deathstroke. Soon after, it teased that the next hero to join the roster would be announced on March 2.

NetherRealm made good on their promise and revealed on Thursday that the next member of Injustice 2 would be none other than Dr. Fate.

Dr. Fate has been around since 1940, but has rarely risen above the level of a C-list hero. He’s had a number of miniseries and ongoings over the years, but few have left a lasting impression with readers. The last time Dr. Fate was on comic book store shelves was in a 2015 Dr. Fate series which lasted 18 issues.

However, don”t let that give you the impression that Dr. Fate can’t kick some serious ass.

One look at the Dr. Fate gameplay trailer for Injustice 2 and you can see that the good Doctor should prove very popular with players.

Good lord.

Considering Superman’s weakness against all things magic, there is a very good chance that Dr. Fate will play an important role in the storyline of Injustice 2. But even if he doesn’t, who cares. Am I the only one who can’t wait to see what he can do?

Like most pf the characters in Injustice 2, Dr. Fate has been given a makeover and looks amazing. And from the footage above, I don;t think anyone will be calling him a poor man’s Doctor Strange anymore.

Injustice 2 arrives for Playstation 4 and Xbox One on May 16, 2017.
