Why Jane Foster Is Not In Thor: Ragnarok Explained
By D. Goodman
In a recent interview, Chris Hemsworth detailed where Jane Foster has gone and why she isn’t in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.
When it was revealed last year that Natalie Portman would not be returning for Thor: Ragnarok and was pretty much finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there wasn’t much of an outcry. While Portman is a very talented actor, Jane Foster never really played a key role in either Thor film and her performance wasn’t exactly a stretch of her skills.
To put it more bluntly, no one was going to miss Portman or her Jane Foster that much.
However, no one was really sure what Marvel would do with her character. The last time we saw Thor and Foster, they were making out quite happily with their future in front of them. Her absence would be difficult to explain and would need to be addressed in the story.

Now both Thor star Chris Hemsworth and Marvel president Kevin Feige have come forward with where exactly Jane Foster has gone.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hemsworth explained that the couple has broken up and Thor has moved on in record time.
"“He’s off exploring the universe, still trying to police it and control the mayhem. But he’s certainly enjoying being a drifter, being a solo cowboy out there.”"
Feige went into a tad more detail and said Thor may have a new special someone in his life.
"“We wanted Thor to encounter somebody that was near his equal and that his relationship with Jane may have evolved in unexpected ways in between The Dark World and Ragnarok and we wanted to pit him against a character who was much more his equal and in many ways his superior. Valkyrie is trying to not embrace any sort of Asgardian heritage that she has. Thor thinks maybe that will create a bond between them and, on the contrary, she wants to forget it all entirely.”"
Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie should be a very interesting when paired with Thor, although I always was rooting for The Lady Sif to get her chance.
However, despite all that Feige and Hemsworth said, I really don’t think we’ve seen the last of Jane Foster.
As any fan of the comics know, Foster recently became the new Thor, wielding Mjölnir and proving to be very popular with readers. She has really been the breakout star of Marvel’s recent attempts at diversifying their universe. Given that Hemsworth’s contract with Marvel will soon be up, the MCU is going to need a new Thor.

If you connect the dots, we could see a recast Jane Foster just I time for Phase Four in a few years.
I mean really. Just imagine Ronda Rousey as Thor, throwing around his hammer. How cool would that be?
Thor: Ragnarok, now with less Jane Foster, will be in theaters everywhere on Nov. 3, 2017.
