The Flash Season 3, Episode 17 Synopsis: “Duet”
By Steve Lam
This week on The Flash, Barry and Kara are stuck in an alternate reality where they’re forced to follow a musical script.
Last week on The Flash‘s “Into the Speed Force” episode, Barry had to save Wally and face off with some past demons. Meanwhile, Jesse Quick was on the hunt for Savitar.
When Barry makes a promise, he makes good on it. Sprinting into action (pun intended), Barry had Cisco vibe a portal to take him into the Speed Force. How will they get him back? Cisco creates a tether, built into Barry’s Flash shield, that’ll allow the team to monitor him.

As soon as Barry enters the Speed Force, Eddie Thawne greets him. It’s not really Eddie. It’s the embodiment of the Speed Force—and it’s not so kind this time. Because Barry messed with time and created Flashpoint, he won’t be getting any help.
After being chased by a Wraith, Barry finally finds Wally—stuck in his own personal hell of watching his mother die over and over again. The Speed Force doesn’t make it easy and sends force-incarnations of Ronnie Raymond and Leonard Snart after Barry. The Scarlet Speedster is quickly saved by Jay Garrick—and yes, it’s really him.
Meanwhile, Jesse tries to get HR to help her find Savitar. He doesn’t cooperate, which gets him a speedster sucker punch to the face, knocking him out. When Jesse finally finds Savitar, she almost loses the fight. At the last minute, HR comes online and guides her. He questions why Savitar would need armor. Jesse finds a vulnerability in Savitar’s metallic suit and injures him. The God of Speed is not really a god.
Back in the Speed Force, Jay sacrifices himself by trading places with Wally. As Barry brings Wally back, he vows that he will return to save Jay. With Jay missing, there’s no Flash on Earth-3, so Jesse goes there to become their protector. She says her heartfelt goodbyes to the members of Team Flash and takes off.
This week, Supergirl crosses over with The Flash, when J’onn and Mon-El bring an unconscious Kara to Earth-1 for help. Soon, Barry himself also gets pulled into Kara’s alternate reality where the two must live in a musical world. Here is the official synopsis from The CW:
“Duet”
"DARREN CRISS (“GLEE”) GUEST STARS AS THE MUSIC MEISTER IN THE FLASH AND SUPERGIRL MUSICAL CROSSOVER – Barry (Grant Gustin) and team are surprised when Mon-El (guest star Chris Wood) and Hank Henshaw (guest star David Harewood) arrive on their Earth carrying a comatose Supergirl (guest star Melissa Benoist) who was whammied by the Music Meister (guest star Darren Criss). Unable to wake her up, they turn to Team Flash to save her. However, the Music Meister surprises The Flash and puts him in a similar coma, one that Team Flash can’t cure. Kara and Barry wake up without their powers in an alternate reality where life is like a musical and the only way to escape is by following the script, complete with singing and dancing, to the end."
