Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2: Baby Groot Will Be Different To Adult Groot
By Idrees Khan
James Gunn confirms that Baby Groot will not have the same memories as Groot.
After the first Guardians Of The Galaxy movie, all everyone could talk about was Groot. The lovable one-line giant quite clearly stole the show. So, seeing a miniature version of Groot, also known as Baby Groot, in the Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 trailers melted many fans’ hearts.

In fact, Baby Groot was actually first introduced at the end of the first movie. After sacrificing himself for the sake of the others, Groot re-emerged as a smaller version of himself. The final scene showed him as just a small dancing tree in a pot. Proving no matter what the size, we will always love him.
Unfortunately, however, it appears that the popular character’s decreased size comes with some side effects.
During a Q&A on Facebook, a fan asked Director James Gunn if this updated version of the tree-like creature would have any memories of its past self. Gunn responded:
"“No, he is not the same Groot, he does not have the same memories. He does not have the memories of adult Groot.”"
This is an interesting decision, considering adult Groot played a vital part in the original movie. Clearly, due to the lack of size, he physically won’t have the same impact. However, with this news, it’ll be intriguing to see just what is in store for him.
Another dynamic to consider is what would this mean for the Rocket and Groot relationship? It appears the two must go back to the beginning of their friendship again.
Despite all this, Baby Groot is still immensely popular. Even going as far as receiving his own ongoing comic book series—I Am Groot, which will debut in May.

So, it’s safe to say that even after this change, Groot will always be in our hearts. Proving that size doesn’t matter.
