Wonder Woman: Ares Is “The Greatest Villain” Claims Director Patty Jenkins
By Idrees Khan
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins claims Ares is “the greatest villain” when asked about his inclusion in the upcoming movie.
It’s no secret that a lot is riding on the forthcoming Wonder Woman movie. Unfortunately, the critical response of the three previous DC Extended Universe films (Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Suicide Squad) were not on par with their box office successes. So now the universe is relying on Wonder Woman to heroically swoop in and save the day.

Judging from the promotional campaign, it appears they may, in fact, succeed in doing so. Pulling no punches, the movie looks set to succeed where its predecessors failed. Thus, no action is bigger than the introduction of Ares the God of War.
While the film will feature the Amazon’s roots, it won’t be your typical origin story. Introducing a strong villain from the get-go means she’ll instantly be thrown into the fire. Although, it appears this may have been the intention all along.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, Jenkins was asked why Ares beat out villains like Cheetah, Circe, or Hercules. She responded:
"“I mean I think he’s the biggest villain of Wonder Woman’s world, and so I think if you’re going to start off big, start off right with the greatest villain.”"
Ares and Wonder Woman are certainly no strangers to each other. The God of War and Amazon warrior have battled since his introduction in Wonder Woman #1. Through the years, they have both continued to cross paths on numerous occasions. Ares has waged continuous battles that test not only the goddess, but all the Amazons.
