Everyone loves Batman. Let’s face it, he’s probably the most badass superhero of all time. Since the 1989 Batman movie, we’ve seen ten big screen movies in the last 28 years which featured the Caped Crusader. The number of films will soon total eleven with the release of Justice League.
Those who feel this isn’t enough will soon get more for their insatiable appetite. According to a post on the Reddit forum “DCEU Leaks” (a controversial 4chan message board), we may be set to see four Batman-related movies in 2019:
"The plan for 2019 is to release four Batman related films. Gotham City Sirens around Valentine’s Day weekend, Nightwing on Memorial Day weekend, Batgirl in August and The Batman in November. The studio is doing this to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Batman. The Batman film will still have Deathstroke but not as a main villain. Matt Reeves wants to do a larger scale Batman film that will include the Bat family as well as most of Batman’s rogues. In addition, two Batman animated films are also planned for 2019. One will be an adaptation of The Long Halloween.Grant Wilson might be the villain for the Nightwing solo film. He is hired by Roland Desmond to take out all the mob bosses in Blüdhaven."
All of this should be taken with a grain of salt. Nonetheless, if these rumors are true, this would be the most films a single superhero will be seen in for any single year. 2019 could turn out to be an ultra-busy year for Ben Affleck.
While not directly a Batman-related movie, Suicide Squad 2 was also mentioned. Many of the characters in Suicide Squad were a collection of Batman’s villains. So with such a heavy Batman influence, it appears Warner Bros. may be appointing the masked vigilante as the focal point of the film universe.
Marvel followed a similar path in Phase One of the MCU, with Iron Man as their lead. However, with the impending return of a certain Kryptonian, we’ll see if Bruce can retain this mantle.
Two other movies mentioned were The Flash and Man of Steel 2. The Flash has struggled to keep its directors, while Matthew Vaughn has expressed interest in directing Man of Steel 2. The rumors are welcomed at this point, as fans eagerly wait for confirmation regarding both movie’s directors.
Overall, Warner Bros. does seem to be going all in with the DC Extended Universe, so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the majority of these rumors come to fruition.

If Warner Bros. plans to catch up to the MCU, releasing eight movies in the space of two years may be the way to go. Bear in mind also, the majority of these movies would release after the MCU’s Phase Three.
Who’s to know whether these rumors have any truth to them. For now, we can only focus on the DCEU movies releasing this year: Wonder Woman and Justice League.
