Martin Starr finally confirms his somewhat obvious role in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

One of the most notable aspects of Spider-Man: Homecoming is its massive ensemble cast. While the film was in pre-production, it seemed as though new cast members were being added every day. One of those people was Silicon Valley star, Martin Starr, who has now revealed his part in the movie.

In an exclusive interview with The Wrap, Starr confirmed that he would be playing a teacher, who also has a second position at the school:

"“I’m the academic decathlon coach and one of the teachers at the school, so I have a bit of a thing in it.”"

The actor didn’t share too much more about his role, but he did explain that the film will provide a somewhat different look at the web-slinger that audiences have not seen on-screen. He also talked about what people can expect from the story:

"“It’s capitalizing on popularity and a story that’s very rich and dense, so there’s a lot left to tell. And this isn’t a familiar take on it – this is a unique kind of take of a younger Spider-Man trying to figure out life again. The story has a lot of action and fun in it, but it’s also a sweet, coming-of-age-story of a kid.”"

None of this should really surprise anyone. When set photos of Starr began to leak, it became pretty clear that he was a teacher, and let’s be honest, he really does fit the mold of an academic.

In terms of the story and tone, it is very consistent with a John Hughes’ high school movie feel that producer Kevin Feige and director Jon Watts have been emphasizing. The comments may not be shocking, but it might still excite many fans to know that we’re definitely getting a true superhero coming-of-age movie.

Spider-Man Homecoming debuts in theaters on July 7, 2017.
