This week on Supergirl, Kara and Maggie must work together to save a kidnapped Alex.

Last week on Supergirl‘s “Ace Reporter” episode, Kara acted as a supportive friend when Lena Luthor’s old flame, Jack Spheer, visited National City to present a breakthrough in nanotechnology—Biomax. And tensions ran high when Lyra is kicked off Jimmy and Winn’s crimefighting team.

Lena is surprised when ex-boyfriend Jack Spheer arrives in National City for a conference. Kara accompanies her and is able to pull double-duty—as a friend and as a reporter. Jack’s presentation is nothing short of amazing, as he shows off a swarm of nanites—Biomax—able to heal wounds instantly.

Soon after, Kara is alerted by a whistleblower that various data on human trials were deleted. When Kara meets her source, Biomax flies in and kills him. After learning that Jack used himself as a test subject, Kara suspects him of being the murderer.

It’s soon discovered that Jack’s Chief Financial Officer was the one controlling him—not wanting the side-effects of Biomax to derail the company’s stock. In a heartbreaking end, Jack has Lena terminate Biomax which, in turn, also kills him.

Meanwhile, Jimmy and Winn have been doing their usual crimefighting activities. Lyra wants to join, and Jimmy eventually gives in—with big reservations. After Lyra uses excessive force on a young suspect, Jimmy kicks her off the team—creating a very tense and awkward moment between her and Winn.

Jimmy finally realizes that he needed to give Lyra a second chance and also provide some ground rules. The three make up and now seem to be well on their way to becoming a crimefighting trio.

This week, Alex is kidnapped, and it’s up to Kara and Maggie Sawyer to save her. However, there’s a big wrinkle: Kara and Maggie have very different methods when it comes to solving cases. Here’s the official synopsis from The CW:

“Alex”

"ALEX IS KIDNAPPED – Alex (Chyler Leigh) is kidnapped and the kidnapper threatens to kill her unless Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) releases a notorious criminal from prison. Supergirl and Maggie (Floriana Lima) have always had different approaches to apprehending criminals but this time they must work together to save Alex. Meanwhile, Rhea (guest star Teri Hatcher) has an interesting proposal for Lena (Katie McGrath)."
