5/18/2017 UPDATE: Warner Bros. has debunked Entertainment Weekly’s story about Billy Crudup dropping out of The Flash. He is still slated to play Henry Allen in the upcoming film.

It looks The Flash has just experienced another key loss.

The Flash just can’t seem to catch a break. Just the other day, things were looking up, as three talented directors were reported to be in the running to direct the feature. But, now, it seems that the project has lost a major cast member.

According to a report from Entertainment Weekly, actor Billy Crudup, who was set to play Henry Allen, has reportedly left the film. The news comes from an EW source, who also says that Sam Raimi and Marc Webb are no longer being considered:

"“The Flash job has not been an easy one to fill. A source tells EW that two Spider-Man directors Sam Raimi and Marc Webb passed on the position. The film also lost its father figure with Billy Crudup, who was set to play the Ezra Miller’s character’s dad, dropping off. Warner Bros. declined to comment.”"

This is a very surprising development, especially since Crudup is currently set to appear as the character in Justice League. Although from what we’ve heard, it’s a very small role.

This is a significant blow to the film to say the least. With this, the movie’s cast currently includes just Ezra Miller and Kiersey Clemons.

Next: Zemeckis, Vaughn and Raimi could direct The Flash

This is definitely disappointing, but on the bright side, maybe things will start to come together once the project nails down a director. If the two remaining candidates are in fact Robert Zemeckis and Matthew Vaughn, either one would absolutely be capable of pulling this thing together. But, as with most things, we’ll just have to wait and see.
