Tom Holland reveals plans for a new Spider-Man trilogy
By Erik Swann
Tom Holland has confirmed that more Spider-Man movies are on the way!
Spider-Man: Homecoming is only a few weeks away, and anticipation for the web-slinger’s first MCU solo outing is at an all-time high. The film is already on track for box office success, and as expected, Marvel Studios and Sony are already prepping for the character’s future solo adventures.
While speaking with French outlet AlloCine, franchise star Tom Holland explained that the story of Peter Parker will be far from finished after this film, and confirmed that a brand new trilogy is being planned:
More from Movies
- James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy casts more major DC characters
- New Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer pushes Arthur to his limits
- 7 actors who could replace Ezra Miller as The Flash in the DC Universe
- Masters of the Universe reboot’s new domain could be at Amazon’s Prime Video Streamer
- James Gunn gives interesting update of Superman and Supergirl movies at DC Studios
"There is still a lot of room for Peter Parker and Spider-Man especially to grow in the next two movies. He’s definitely not the finished article by the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming and I really look forward to exploring the different ways he can grow up and go through puberty I guess. It’s going to be an exciting couple of movies…Yeah, there’ll be Spider-Man 2 and 3, it won’t be Homecoming 2 and 3."
This is good to hear, but it honestly doesn’t come as a surprise. A sequel was scheduled for July 5, 2019 several months ago, and most assumed that a third film would eventually happen.
Still, with Tom Holland’s rising star status and the positive response to his Spider-Man, this is a very smart move for both Marvel and Sony.
Next: Tom Holland is planning to be Spider-Man for many years
We’ve yet to see the first installment in this new trilogy, but based on the trailers (and Marvel Studios’ track record), this could very well be the start of another monster superhero franchise.
Spider-Man: Homecoming crawls into theaters on July 7, 2017.
