By Erik Swann
Lupita Nyong’o was ecstatic when she watched the Black Panther trailer for the first time!
The Black Panther teaser trailer made quite an impression on fans and casual moviegoers when it dropped during Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The trailer earned a whopping 89 million views within 24 hours, and people shared their excitement through social media. However, no one may have been more excited than Lupita Nyong’o.
While speaking with Access Hollywood, Nyong’o recalled her initial reaction to the trailer and revealed that she geeked out over seeing the footage. The actress also explained that she’s not only excited for the film itself but for the impact that it could have:

"I am geeking out. I mean I was screaming louder than anyone else by myself in my apartment when it came out. I mean, it’s really exciting, and I was a part of it of course. There’s still being a lot of work done on it and we have to deliver something as good as that trailer, but that trailer is very encouraging. It’s exciting. It’s so empowering. I couldn’t help but twerk as I watched it. To see myself reflected back to me does something so powerful. You rise up a little, and I think we could all use that kind of representation."
She’s definitely not wrong. The film is poised to be a massive event similar to Wonder Woman, in which an underrepresented group finally gets the character and film they’ve been clamoring for.
Nakia (Nyong’o’s character in the film) could potentially have a major impact on audiences. It’s not too often that we get to see powerful women of color in big budget films.
Next: Black Panther will not be a traditional superhero origin story
We still have a while before we see Nyong’o kick butt with Black Panther and the Dora Milaje. For many, that can’t come soon enough.
Black Panther hits theaters on February 16, 2018.
