Before this movie, audiences didn’t know just how much they wanted to see a walking tree and a gun-toting raccoon on screen. James Gunn’s first attempt at a Marvel property definitely caught the public by surprise.

The film was quickly pegged as “Marvel’s first flop,” but it proved the doubters wrong with its fresh characters, laugh out loud humor and genuine sentiment. It also didn’t hurt that the film has a 1970s-powered soundtrack that keeps viewers humming and rocking in their seats. With so many unique aspects, it’s safe to say that this unconventional space opera will undoubtedly be enjoyed for years to come.
