9. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

For their fifth project, Marvel Studios’ tried their hand at a period piece and did a solid job. The film gives a nice introduction to Steve Rogers, and director Joe Johnston creates an engaging and pulpy 1940s world that’s just as earnest as the titular hero.

Despite doubts from many fans, former Human Torch Chris Evans proved that he is more than capable of playing the role. Actors like Hayley Atwell, Dominic Cooper, and Neal McDonough also make the most of their screen time, and establish characters that have become integral to the MCU mythos. While the movie may pale in comparison to its sequels, it’s still fun to revisit.
