Joss Whedon’s sequel reunited Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for another grand adventure. However, it’s not quite as smooth, as the film suffers from some bloated sequences and questionable transitions.

On the bright side, Whedon’s signature dialogue and keen direction are still present, and he manages to go deeper into the dynamics between the characters while introducing fan favorites Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver and Vision into the fray. James Spader brings the monologue-spouting Ultron to life in great fashion and makes him one of the more interesting movie robots in recent years. For a film with a number of corporate obligations, it’s actually not half bad.
