It’s tough to argue that DC and Warner Bros. hit television gold when they decided to expand the Arrowverse on The CW. What started as one very good show that reimagined Green Arrow with a modern sensibility has now expanded to a quartet of shows, including The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.
With a highly anticipated Black Lightning show coming down the pike and rumors swirling that a Superman series could join the Arrowverse lineup, things look to be in great shape for the foreseeable future.
A big part of the reason the shows have been such a hit is thanks to some of the best writing on television. The various teams Warner Bros. assembled to bring the characters to life have done some incredible work. They seem to have a firm grasp on what fans want to see and have kept each series distinct, yet with enough common elements that there is no mistaking they all share the same reality.
In many ways, the Arrowverse works even better than the more popular Marvel Cinematic Universe, thanks to richer, deeper storylines and more screen time to work with. All you need to do is watch the “Invasion!” event that had all four shows cross over to see what I mean.
And now the writing team on The Flash is about to get even better.
Comic book writer Sterling Gates announced on his Twitter feed on Friday that he has joined the writing team for the upcoming fourth season of The Flash.
For those that may not know, Gates has impeccable superhero writing chops. He wrote the ongoing Supergirl title before the New 52 relaunch as well as the Adventures of Supergirl digital series that tied into the television show. He also wrote occasional stories for The Flash Season Zero, a companion digital series for the CW series as well as the short lived but much missed Justice League of America’s Vibe.
So yes. Gates knows his way around superheroes, especially DC heroes.
