Bill Morrison is both writing and drawing an adaption of the Beatles classic Yellow Submarine for the film’s 50th anniversary.

If you are Bill Morrison, you can say without hesitation that 2017 has been a pretty good year so far.

Last month, Morrison was named just the fifth editor in the 65-year history history of venerable Mad Magazine. He is probably best known for co-founding Bongo Comics with The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, drawing the very first issue of the comic based on the classic cartoon.

And now Morrison gets to take part in a project that can only be called a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Announced via The Hollywood Reporter on Monday, Morrison will both write and draw an all new comic adaption of the classic Beatles film Yellow Submarine. The book will be published by Titan Comics and is planned to hit stores in time for the film’s 50th anniversary celebration.

For those who may have been living in a cave, Yellow Submarine was released in 1968 and told the story of John, Paul George and Ringo battling the Blue Meanies in the realm of Pepperland. It mixes animation and some serious trippy effects with a soundtrack full of Beatles classics and previously unreleased songs.

And yes, it really is as good as it sounds.

Now Morrison will be bringing the story of Yellow Submarine to comic book stores everywhere. It will serve as just part of the celebration of the anniversary of the film, with lots of collectibles heading to a store near you.

Chris Teather is the publishing director for Titan Comics and was asked by THR about the book.

"“We’re thrilled to be publishing The Beatles: Yellow Submarine for the 50th Anniversary of this fantastic movie. We can’t wait for Beatles fans to experience this official adaptation.”"

As a certified Beatles freak, I can say without hesitation that I may run down to my local comic shop and reserve my copy now. Yellow Submarine is an incredible film and this comic adaption looks like it will be a ton of fun to read. From the preview pages, it looks like all you’ll need is a copy of the soundtrack and it will be just like watching the movie.
