Mark Hamill had his eye on the main villain role in Spider-Man: Homecoming!

Mark Hamill has been quite busy lately. Not only has he already started promoting Star Wars: The Last Jedi, but he was also just honored as a Disney Legend at the company’s D23 Expo. Although he’s clearly known for his integral role in the Star Wars universe, he was circling a particular part in a recent Marvel movie.

While at D23, Hamill spoke with Rotten Tomatoes and revealed his desire to play the Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. The veteran actor wanted the role so badly he was even hoping Michael Keaton would not accept it:

"“I don’t want to jeopardize any potential roles I might have in a future Marvel film. I had my fingers crossed that Michael Keaton would turn down the Vulture but darn it. There’s not a lot of villainous roles for senior citizens so I had my eyes on the Vulture.”"

Despite missing out on the role, Hamill is a huge Marvel fan. When asked who would win in a fight between the Avengers and the Jedi, he said one specific reason would make it a close fight:

"“I love all that stuff. I’m a comic book nerd and you know, who knows what would happen. It would probably depend on a flip of a coin because they [Disney] own both franchises.”"

Hamill’s take on the character could have been interesting, but most fans (including myself) were very pleased with Keaton’s portrayal of the classic villain.

Still, this doesn’t mean Hamill couldn’t play another role. Some have already pegged him as Doctor Octopus. It remains to be seen if Hamill ever lands a role in the MCU, but having him in the franchise would definitely not be a bad thing.
