Of course, no one waits for Comic-Con to officially begin anymore to start releasing news. If you want to get the drop on everyone and help build the hype for the bigger panels, you get out there early.

More from TV

Which is just what Marvel Studios and Netflix did on Wednesday.

Marvel is giving The Defenders a panel of their very own on Friday at Comic-Con and not lumping it in with the bigger Marvel Studios MCU panel on Saturday. In The Defenders, Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist team-up and form the Gritty Avengers to fight whoever the hell Sigourney Weaver is playing. With the series set to hit Netflix this August you know they want to get the hype machine going as soon as possible.

So what better way to hype the Defenders panel than release the first teaser for the next new series to make its debut very soon, The Punisher?

The Punisher, played by Jon Bernthal, made his debut in the second season of Daredevil to much fan acclaim. After a trio of big budget films failed to get the character right it took taking him to the small screen to finally bring Frank Castle to bloody, vengeful life.

Bernthal was amazing in the role and was one of the best elements of Daredevil Season 2. Almost from the moment the series was released people wanted to see a solo Punisher Netflix series and quickly got their wish.

Of course this isn’t really much of a teaser. All we really get is a look at the logo and that’s about it. No footage, no nothing. But given that SDCC is around the corner and The Defenders panel will be a big part of it, you can bet we might get some more info about The Punisher before the panel is over.

The Punisher is being showrun by Steve Lightfoot and will star Bernthal along with Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Deborah Ann Woll, Daniel Webber and Jason R. Moore. It is set to be released on Netflix sometime later this year.
