There have been various developments regarding not only The Batman film, but Ben Affleck’s future in the role. Recently, a report surfaced that Warner Bros. and DC Films were planning to phase him out of the role and, ultimately, go in a new direction with the character. Well, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Affleck appeared with his Justice League castmates during the Warner Bros. panel at San Diego Comic-Con. and enthusiastically confirmed he loves the role, with no intention of leaving:
"“Let me be very clear. I am the luckiest guy in the world. Batman is the coolest part in the universe. I’m so thrilled to do it. It’s f**king amazing.”"
In terms of the studio wanting to move on, the actor assured fans they absolutely want him to continue playing the character:
"“’We want you to be the Batman’ they told me, and I believe them.”"
Finally, Affleck gave high praise to The Batman director Matt Reeves:
"“I would be an ape on the ground for Matt Reeves!”"
Next: Matt Reeves will start from scratch for DCEU Batman film
This is great news for fans (and Warner Bros. and DC Films). Most can agree Affleck’s Batman has been a bright spot in the DC Extended Universe and it makes perfect sense to hold on to him. Also, pairing him with a filmmaker like Reeves should really make for a cool, cinematic Batman experience.
Admittedly, with this great news, it would have been nice to get a confirmed release date for The Batman. But, I guess at this point, we should just be glad it’s actually happening with Affleck in the lead.
