Doomsday Clock: A first look at the two covers for DC’s huge event

Geoff Johns takes to Twitter and gives us a first look at two covers for Doomsday Clock #1.

Since the start of DC’s Rebirth initiative, a master plan has been in the works. Readers were teased with this big reveal at the end of DC Universe: Rebirth #1. After years of dealing with The New 52’s rebooted stories for each character, DC decided to reinvigorate the franchise with some much-needed optimism. That became known as “Rebirth.”

Rebirth acknowledged something had changed with the universe. The characters themselves were also aware. And the final pages strongly hinted Doctor Manhattan was responsible for the creation of The New 52 — thereby also bringing in the Watchmen universe into DC’s main continuity.

Today, DC Chief Geoff Johns gave fans a taste of things to come with a tweet revealing the main cover and variant cover to Doomsday Clock #1. Both covers, illustrated by artist Gary Frank, cannot be more different.

The first features no noticeable characters, only angry protesters holding signs touting some form of Armageddon. The second cover features Superman with an ominous background — the presence of Doctor Manhattan. The Man of Steel is also being deconstructed — something Doctor Manhattan is very capable of doing. Check out the tweet and a closer look at the covers!

DC Comics also proved a third cover preview — a still image for their lenticular cover. An animated preview will be revealed in a few weeks. However, as this one shows, it seems Rorschach will also be involved — especially with the DC Trinity’s logos blending into an inkblot test.
