Why we love Lucifer: It’s all about girls who kick butt

Lucifer is one of the hottest shows on television, and that’s not just because Tom Ellis plays a hot devil. We love Lucifer because it’s all about the girls.

Lucifer is one of the hottest shows on television and is growing in ratings and fans with every season. As we prepare for the October 2 premiere of Lucifer’s third season, let’s talk about one of the coolest aspects of the show: The female cast members.

It was Rachel Harris, the actress who plays Lucifer’s friend and therapist Dr. Linda, who pointed out a very important feature of the show during a press event at San Diego Comic Con 2017: There are more female cast members than there are male cast members.

Though the show centers around Tom Ellis’ Lucifer Morningstar, the reality is that Lucifer is surrounded by women. There is Chloe Decker (Lauren German) who plays Lucifer’s partner and her adorable daughter Trixie (Scarlett Estevez). There’s Harris’ Dr. Linda and demon turned bounty hunter Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt), and there’s plucky crime scene investigator Ella Lopez (Aimee Garcia). Lucifer’s male counterparts are his brother Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) and Chloe’s ex and fellow officer Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro).

More often than not, it is the women in Lucifer’s life that give him the most guidance and support. Though we all know that Tom Ellis is one handsome devil, Lucifer relies heavily upon Maze and Dr. Linda to help him with tough issues that his charming smile can’t fix. Over the course of the first two seasons a bond has formed between Chloe, Dr. Linda and Maze and they have even gone on girls’ night adventures on the show. And when Trixie and Maze get together, it’s all over because the demon and Chloe’s daughter have a wonderful relationship.

Most importantly, though, is that the women on Lucifer are brilliant, brave and bold. Chloe has worked hard to build her reputation as a police detective after her acting career while Maze has had to fight to suppress her inner demon in order to move forward on Earth. Dr. Linda has found herself an honorary member of Lucifer’s dysfunctional family. She has shown her loyalty to Lucifer even when her life and career have been threatened. And Ella, the most recent addition to the team, has shown that she has overcome a challenging childhood to become a very successful investigator who balances her religious beliefs with her faith in science.
