Marvel’s Kevin Feige hopes to re-team with Thor director Taika Waititi at some point in the future.

Marvel Studios has managed to assemble a pool of skilled filmmakers, which includes directors like James Gunn and Joe and Anthony Russo. The latest addition is Taika Waititi, who helmed Thor: Ragnarok. Early reactions to the film have praised Waititi for his direction with many believing that he revitalized the franchise. Marvel also seems to be pleased with his work, and it appears that may not be done with him.

Screen Rant recently caught up with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, who stressed that the studio is currently focused on finishing out Phase 3. However, he did express his belief that Marvel would once again work with Waititi in the future:

"“Well, we’ll see. I would love, love, love to work with Taika again and I have every confidence that we will. What we’re working on right now is the next six movies. The next six movies that will bring us to Untitled Avengers in May 2019, which carries off a lot of what you see in this movie. In some cases very directly, and continues to build and grow.”"

Feige also discussed how the director was able to accurately capture the look and feel of Jack Kirby’s comic book aesthetic:

More from Movies

"“Jack Kirby has been an influence on every Marvel movie we’ve ever made, because he built the Marvel Universe with Stan, Steve Ditko, and the whole gang there. But this movie, and coincidentally being the 100th year anniversary of Jack Kirby’s birth, we really wanted to be that unabashed love letter… When talking to the art department, and saying, ‘Oh look at that, it really should be like this,’ looking at Jack Kirby costumes and background panels, and the art department doing something inspired by it. And then Taika going ‘No, no. Do this! [referencing exact Kirby art]’ And that’s why you have, it’s direct to translation of Kirby’s artwork which hasn’t been seen in a movie before.”"

It’s not hard to see why Marvel would want him back. Throughout his career, Waititi has found critical success with films like Boy and What We Do in the Shadows. He’s also been applauded for his distinct vision and sense of humor.

Keeping a creative like him in the fold could be very beneficial to the company, as it would help to create creative continuity within the studio.

In terms of the Marvel’s future, there should be plenty of opportunities for him to direct again. With the cosmic side of the MCU set to expand after Avengers 4, Waititi could bring that same intergalactic, Jack Kirby style to other projects.
