Justice League 2 is currently being developed

It appears that Warner Bros. and DC Films are already working on a Justice League sequel.
With Justice League quickly approaching, the excitement among fans is increasing. With the changes the production has been through, many don’t know what expect from it. Despite this, fans are still hoping that it leads to series of films. Warner Bros. and DC Films haven’t confirmed a sequel, as they’re focusing on other properties. However, J.K. Simmons might have just spilled the beans.
Simmons recently caught up with Total Film Magazine (via Cosmic Book News), and while discussing the film, he confirmed that a sequel is in active development:

"“Well, Commissioner Gordon wears a trench coat in every scene, so I don’t know that the ‘pumped up’ part is going to be all that evident, especially when you’re standing next to Batman! But this is the first Justice League movie – we hope – of a few. They’re working on scripts for The Batman and for the next Justice League movie. It introduces my incarnation of Commissioner Gordon. I don’t have a lot to do. I feel like I just dipped my toe in the water of who Commissioner Gordon will be.”"
This is very surprising to hear. Recently, DC Films co-heads Geoff Johns and Diane Nelson revealed that the studio would put less emphasis on the cinematic universe. DC’s cinematic universe would be kept intact, but the characters wouldn’t constantly crossover with each other. With this, most believed that a Justice League sequel wouldn’t happen anytime soon.
Johns and Nelson were clear on their position, but it does make sense that the studio would want to prepare a sequel in case the film is successful. So far, test screenings have been relatively positive among viewers.
On a side note, it’s also good to know that the screenplay for The Batman is actively being written. We’ve known for a while that it’s been in development, but getting further confirmation never hurts.
What ultimately happens with Justice League is still anyone’s guess, and based on its reception, plans for the sequel could change. But, if everything does work out, a trilogy could absolutely be coming in the near future.
