Storm actress promises X-Men: Dark Phoenix to be faithful to the comics
Will X-Men: Dark Phoenix relate to the comics?
X-Men: Apocalypse actress, Alexandra Shipp, who played the character Storm A.K.A. Ororo Munroe, assured fans that the film X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be faithful to the comics.
The classic story arc Shipp is referring to is of course ‘The Dark Phoenix Saga’ by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. In the most influential tale, after a mission in space Jean Grey becomes an entity known as the Phoenix and is the target of the inner circle called the Hellfire Club and an extraterrestrial race of warriors known as the Shi’ar Imperial Guard.
Elements of The Dark Phoenix Saga have been adapted across media; one of them infamously was partly depicted in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006). It is this why fans are critical at FOX in attempting to adapt this story once again. Olivia Munn even hinted the new film could be split in two parts.
Replacing Bryan Singer in the director’s chair is Simon Kinberg, a writer and producer of many X-Men films. Shipp told Syfy Wire:
"“It’s definitely a darker world. A lot more is going on at this point. I can’t say too much, but what I can say is that, as a fan of the X-Men franchise, I know a lot of people are going to be happy with how accurate this one is.”"

Before Shipp went on to say the role of Storm was her ‘dream role,’ on the script for Dark Phoenix she stated it ‘stays true.’
"“Now that [Kinberg] has a little more control, he is able to really allow this X-Men world to flourish.”"
How faithful the film will be to the comics is not the question that needs an answer, but rather, is Kinberg the right director to adapt this tale?
As this is Kinberg’s directorial debut, we got to examine his track record and history. Kinberg is one of the highest paid screenwriters and producers in Hollywood with at least one Golden Globe under his belt and an Academy Award nomination.
He is responsible for writing/producing some of the best X-Men related projects such as First Class, Days of Future Past, Deadpool and Logan as well as some of the worst a la The Last Stand.
It is apparent that producers do not become necessarily good directors. To quote James Lee Bartlow (Dick Powell) in his conversation with line-producer, Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas), from the movie, The Bad and the Beautiful:
"“To direct a picture, a man needs humility. Do you have humility, Mr. Shields?”"
In the case of Kinberg, he is definitely more of a methodical auteur than an articulate one. However, we will have to wait and see.
