Vincent D’Onofrio is officially set to return for the new season of Daredevil!

Details on season three of Marvel’s Daredevil are still scarce. The new season was reportedly slated to start production sometime this month. And, recently, the show’s Twitter account shared a mysterious post. Now, we have confirmation that one of the series’ breakout stars will be returning.

Deadline is reporting that Vincent D’Onofiro will reprise his role as Wilson Fisk/The Kingpin in the third season. The report also mentions that Erik Oleson has signed on as showrunner and executive producer. Oleson will take over for Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez, who succeeded season one showrunner, Steven S. DeKnight.

Marvel Television head Jeph Loeb expressed his enthusiasm about D’Onofrio’s return and having Oleson on board:

"“Vincent is an exceptional actor who returns with the incredible gravitas he brings to Fisk…We’re very excited how Marvel’s Daredevil develops through the creative lens and guidance of our new showrunner, Erik Oleson.”"

Oleson is no stranger to the superhero genre, as he previously served as an EP on Arrow. He also served in the same capacity on CBS’ Unforgettable and Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle.

The news of D’Onofrio coming back is an exciting prospect. During the first season, the actor’s portrayal of Wilson Fisk quickly became a fan favorite. Unfortunately, his presence was limited during the second season.

Luckily, Fisk is poised to have a major role this time around. Both Daredevil and The Defenders appeared to be setting the stage for the Born Again story arc. In the story, Wilson Fisk destroys Matt Murdock’s professional and personal life. This should make for some interesting storytelling in the new slate of episodes. Fans were already looking forward to the new season and this should only add to the hype.
