Laurence Fishburne shares some details on his Ant-Man and the Wasp role and teases a secret Marvel project.

Fans were excited when they learned at that Laurence Fishburne would be playing Dr. Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Since the announcement, there haven’t been many story updates regarding the film. Now, Fishburne has dropped a few tidbits not only about the movie but another project as well.

Fishburne recently caught up with Collider while promoting his latest film, Last Flag Flying. During the interview, he talked about getting to work within the Marvel Universe, which he has been a fan of since childhood:

"“I have figured out how to get myself into the Marvel Universe… I can only tell you that I, as a comic reader from childhood, I was a Marvel guy primarily because I grew up in New York City in the 60s and 70s when Marvel was really touching on everything that was happening in my world. It was reflected in the books and in the stories they were telling.”"

While the actor was disappointed that he couldn’t reprise the role of Perry White in Justice League, he was interested in joining Marvel, and even went to the studio to voice his interest. This ultimately led to him snagging a role in the Ant-Man sequel:

"“…I was unable to be involved in the Justice League movie, scheduling-wise it just wasn’t going to work out, but I had wanted very much to be part of the Marvel universe at the same time. So I went to them and pitched them a couple of ideas and basically said, ‘Look, if there’s anything I can do that makes sense for me to do in the Marvel universe, I would love to be involved. So they came to me with an offer to be Bill Foster in Ant-Man and the Wasp.”"

Although he was mostly tight-lipped about his character, he did share a small tidbit, and expressed his enthusiasm about the project:

"“All I can tell you is I’m playing Bill Foster, who was Hank Pym’s assistant. That’s how I enter into the world and I’m very excited. Peyton Reed is directing it, who directed the first one. It’s gonna be as fun and cool and smart as the first one.”"

On top of all this, Fishburne also revealed that he’s working on a secret project with Marvel Studios that he definitely can’t say too much about:

"“I’ve got black-ish going on, I’m developing something else for Marvel that I can’t talk about. It’s gonna be really cool. It’s gonna change the world, we hope (laughs). I went to Marvel and pitched them something that really couldn’t work out—there was a lot of legal red tape that just [was] something they couldn’t work out. But then they came back with the offer for Ant-Man and the Wasp and then they said, ‘Hey, what do you think of this?’ and I went ‘Oh yeah that, yes!’ so…”"

Fishburne is a strong addition to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it will be interesting to see exactly how his character fits into the story. Dr. Bill Foster also served as Dr. Hank Pym’s assistant in the comics. He later utilized the “Pym particles” to grow, and held the superhero titles of Black Goliath and Giant-Man. It’s possible that in the MCU Foster was once a superhero at some point in the past.

In terms of that secret project, it’s really hard to say what it might be. It could involve Bill Foster or another superhero franchise entirely. Regardless, judging by Fishburne’s excitement, it must be something big – no pun intended.
