Disney might want to buy 21st Century Fox

The Walt Disney Company is reportedly in the early stages of a deal that could have a massive effect on Marvel Studios.

While fans have come to love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, many have hoped that company might one day acquire the rights to all of its properties. Part of this dream became a reality when Marvel and Sony made that game-changing Spider-Man deal. But, the X-Men and Fantastic 4 franchises are still with Fox. However, a shrewd business deal from Disney could change all of that.

CNBC reports that The Walt Disney Company is in negotiations to purchase most of 21st Century Fox. According to the outlet, there is no set deal in place, but the two sides have engaged in discussions on and off for the past few weeks. If the sale happens, Disney would control 21st Century Fox’s film division film, 20th Century Fox.

Now, what does this mean for comic book fans? Well, because 21st Century Fox currently holds the rights to certain Marvel properties, Disney would effectively take ownership of them. As a result, those franchises would be placed under the Marvel Studios umbrella, which could bring the X-Men, the Fantastic 4 and Deadpool into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Once again, these are very early talks, and nothing is set. But, if this deal is made, it would be huge for the MCU and the film industry as a whole. A lot of people (like myself) have never believed that Marvel would reclaim those characters from Fox. This year, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige reiterated that the relationship between Fox and Marvel had not changed. But, apparently something did change between Fox and Disney.
