Justice League: Ben Affleck may be done as Batman after the movie
Ben Affleck will potentially be done with the DCEU after Justice League.
With Justice League coming to theaters in less than two weeks — the question still remains… Will Ben Affleck continue to be the DCEU’s Batman for the foreseeable future? That very question has plagued fans since earlier this year when THR reported that WB was planning to usher out Ben Affleck’s Batman.
Soon after the report, Affleck did his best to diffuse the red-hot rumors during the 2017 San Diego Comic-Con back in July. It appeared that all was well, and at the very least we’d get to see Batfleck suite for Matt Reeves Batman film. However, a few months later Affleck’s little brother (Casey Affleck) once again stirred the pot when he stated that his brother wouldn’t be portraying the Caped Crusader in a solo film.
"“He’s not going to do that movie [The Batman], I don’t think. Sorry to say…”"
Casey tried to backtrack his statements, by saying he was making it up, but it was obvious there was some truth to what he was saying.
According to Batman News, Affleck’s recent comments contradicted his SDCC comments and were more apropos to early reports. Affleck joined co-stars Ray Fisher and Jason Mamoa for an interview with Extra TV where he was asked about his future as Batman, and he had this to say:
"“I don’t know about that… We’ll see what the future holds.”"
Although Affleck’s comment doesn’t give a definitive answer, his reluctance to confirm his commitment to the role is very telling. If Justice League is Ben Affleck’s swan song then it’ll be a great shame especially if his performance is a memorable one. There was so much promise and hype surrounding the possibility of seeing Ben Affleck get a chance to explore the role of Batman in depth through a Matt Reeves noir film. With all the problems going on with the DCEU, having Affleck as Batman was the least of them. Let’s hope somehow, whatever the issues are would allow for Batfleck to rise again and again. I guess we really have to wait and see how things turn out — which is something fans of the convoluted DCEU have grown accustomed to. Justice League will hit theaters November 17, 2017.
