Injustice 2, Hellboy: Everything to know about the new DLC character
By Brendan Day
Injustice 2 released a new DLC character, Hellboy. What should be known about this character?
Hey gamers, the new DLC character for Injustice 2 has been released for purchasers of the Fighter Pack 3. This character is the final fighter among an impressive line-up including Black Mantha and Raiden. He’s not from DC Comics or the Mortal Combat franchise, he’s a guest character and fan favorite Hellboy! I got to play as the character before most casual gamers will be able to, so here is a review of Hellboy in Injustice 2.
Who is Hellboy?
Hellboy is a character from Dark Horse comics and was created by Mike Mignola. The character stumbled upon Earth through a wormhole as a child and was found by World War II soldiers. As an adult, he joined an organization called the Bureau where he fights monsters and demons that threaten the world. The Hellboy character also had two films directed by Guillermo del Toro played by the great Ron Perlman. Currently, there is an upcoming reboot in production which star David Harbour(Stranger Things) as the title character.
What’s the character’s gameplay like?
Hellboy is slow and relies on strong short attacks instead of long chain combos. He has a trusty pistol that can pull off a quick attack, but won’t do much damage. His signature moves aren’t as traditional as what other characters will have.
God’s Hand only works when the character is up in the air either through jumping or taking damage. It’s a decent move to use after another attack, but otherwise is very useless. His super move is very cool, as he knocks the opponent down into Hell as demons massacre them, Hellboy then finishes the attack with a slash from a huge ax. His superpower is similar to Superman, where he basically adds a multiplier for his attacks. In that mode, Hellboy grows fiery horns and looks more menacing. The character is known for wisecracking, and listening to his exchanges with other characters such as Brainiac and Black Canary were hilarious.
Should you buy this character?
Hellboy is hands down the most disappointing DLC character yet. He obviously is a “guest” character, but playing as him will prove my point that he clearly does not belong in this game. His move set and play-style feels way too different and makes him really difficult to play as. He also looks very cartoony in comparison to the semi-realistic faces that make up the other characters. I understand they wanted Hellboy’s look to portray the comic book, but I wish they made him look more realistic. Even how Atrocitus appears in the game fits into the world, Hellboy does not. Players would need a lot of practice in order to use this character well. I wish they could have replaced him with someone else, but seeing him on this roster is very interesting none the less.

Only if you are a die-hard fan of Hellboy, do not purchase this character. The fighter would definitely rank the lowest of the DLC characters.
