Marvel Studios still has a glaring issue in Avengers: Infinity War.

Right after Justice League fails, Marvel Studios took the spotlight this week, releasing a trailer for Avengers: Infinity War and a 10-year anniversary photo shoot with Vanity Fair. The images showed our favorite superhero characters as they appear in Infinity War. Everyone is here, from Iron Man to Stan Lee, Ant-Man, and even Hawkeye’s wife Laura Barton.

Although the pictures look awesome, there was something that stood out. The explanation includes spoilers for Thor: Ragnarok below.

If you notice the Chris Hemsworth photo as he portrays Thor, he looks different from how we last saw him in Thor: Ragnarok. Although there were issues with the movie, it was surprising to see some consequences in the movie’s ending.

Our favorite Asgardian lost his hammer and his eye, completing his arc to be a true God of Thunder and resemble his father, Odin. But, in these photos, Thor is wielding his hammer and has both eyes.

As of this writing, nothing has been confirmed if Thor will appear this way in the new movie, meaning one of two things. First, these photos are a deflection to prevent spoilers (Maybe for people who still haven’t seen Thor: Ragnarok). However, it may be what Thor will look like, and nothing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe matters, again.

More from Movies

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a juggernaut and extremely successful, but it isn’t perfect. In the new Avengers: Infinity War trailer, all of the shots of Thor show him missing an eye, but the photos don’t. So, what was the point of Thor: Ragnarok if the character is magically granted everything they lost before? There’s potentially a good explanation, but it will probably feel very cheap.

It’s not just Thor: Ragnarok, either, as many of the Marvel movies have a similar problem. Occasionally, we’ll have characters that we see die on-screen and then later come back to life or return in some way. Some examples are Loki, Agent Coulson, Bucky Barnes and Nick Fury. The list goes on. Not that it isn’t the best storytelling device, but the more you do it, the less audiences will engage with the characters because in our minds they will seem invincible and nothing too drastic will happen to them. The YouTube Channel “How it Should Have Ended” put it perfectly.

Hopefully, it’s an issue the Marvel Cinematic Universe can fix going forward. From the looks of the new trailer for Avengers: Infinity War that debuted, some crazy things are about to go down. But, who knows, maybe the Russo Brothers will lose it and Thanos kills everyone by the end of Avengers: Infinity War, so the only characters remaining to face him are Harley Keener, Luis, and Happy Hogan. Avengers: Infinity War will arrive in theaters in May 2018, marking 10 wonderful years of superhero movies.
