Avengers 4 ‘finale’ is nothing new for the world of comic books
By Jason Hall
Kevin Feige has said that Avengers 4 will be a finale for this version of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is nothing new in the world of comic books.

The landscape of comic books is constantly changing and getting mixed around to keep things fresh and bring in new readers. It sounds like the people in charge of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are taking a page from that book.
Marvel and DC have existed and thrived for so many years because they have been unafraid to take some chances with classic characters. Not all of them were huge successes, but it knocks the dust from the shelves and opens the way for new ideas. There have been ideas that didn’t work like Marvel’s Heroes Reborn campaign from the 90’s or DC’s All-Star series that were really hit or miss.
Without taking risks like this we never would have gotten the Marvel Ultimate universe which heavily influenced the MCU or DC‘s most recent very popular Rebirth relaunch. I think it is very smart of Marvel Studios to see this as an opportunity to change their game before things get too stagnant.
Feige has stated that the next 20 films will be very different than the 20 that have come before. Everyone has already been speculating that not all of our current heroes will survive the next two films and it works well that so many heroes have other comic book heroes that step into their shoes all the time. Iron Man has been Tony Stark, Rhodey, and even the most recent Riri Williams. The role of Captain America has been held by Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, and Sam Wilson. I know Spider-Man in the MCU just got started again, but there is always Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen that could take his place someday.
It is a given that Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy will all get their sequels. The big question is what don’t we know about? We’ve only been told that it won’t be what we expect. Captain Marvel will likely usher in a whole new era of heroes. What will the Avengers look like in 5 years? Who are the new heroes and villains we haven’t met yet?

Will Baron Zemo create the Thunderbolts? Will we ever see the live-action version of characters like Kang or Korvac? We’ll need a group on new villains after Thanos is defeated and it’s likely a new team of heroes will be built to face them. Bucky as Cap seems like a viable option and the rumor around Spider-Man replacing Iron Man makes some sense. I could see a squad of Bucky Cap, Spider-Man, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange. That still leaves out whichever new heroes they might bring in and I’m excited to meet them.
