2. DCEU doesn’t have a problem with standalone films

That’s right, no matter the overall opinion about the DCEU one thing is for certain, their two standalone solo films were not the issue. One of the reasons is that there’s no forced storyline their solo movies had to follow. Unfortunately, with Dawn of Justice, there was this urge to make it a lead-up film to Justice League. The failures of Batman v Superman resulted in WB wanting Suicide Squad to be lighter and as a result, it bombed. Those two movies are a combinational disaster that exist within Justice League and why it too bombed. However, Aquaman is a standalone solo film and history tells us that the DCEU can get those right.

Man of Steel

When it came to Man of Steel, fans were introduced to the face of the DCEU in Henry Cavill in 2013. Cavill played a powerful being who became powerless against another being who was getting stronger by the day in Zod.  Superman’s ultimate decision felt right and gave fans a different perspective of the hero. The overall tone was more gritty than the colorful lighthearted Superman films of the past. The desperation that exuded Zack Snyder’s character which ended in him making Superman commit murder, made it feel unique. Man of Steel went on to become a blockbuster success

Wonder Woman

Of course, Man of Steel paled in comparison to Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman. For starters, fans had never been introduced to the Princess of the Amazons on the big screen, and Patty Jenkins along with Gal Gadot made it so that we’d never forget. Though the visual aspects of the film was still dark, the tone of the movie was both serious and comedic with Gadot’s excellent portrayal in the origin story. Gadot had warm, charming, strong, and feminine qualities that made it easy for fans to watch and root for despite early misguided naysayers. Jenkins’ vision of a heroine leader and savior of mankind during a time of war was done to perfection and proved once again that the DCEU can do standalone movies, so Aquaman is in great in a great place.
