Suicide Squad 2 reportedly has a filming start date

Suicide Squad 2 won’t go into production until late next year, according to a report.

Suicide Squad 2′s development process has been quite the rollercoaster ride, but the project is finally finding its stride. The baddie-centered adventure is expected to start production in October 2018, according to a new report from Omega Underground.

Filming was reportedly expected to kick off in March of 2018 at first, but Will Smith (a.k.a. Deadshot) has quite a packed schedule ahead of himself with Ang Lee’s Gemini Man.

While this is a rumor and should be taken with a grain of salt, the information does make sense. Suicide Squad 2 was one of the films WB confirmed during 2017’s Sao Paulo Comic Con, after all.

When can we expect to see this movie? That’s the big question here. Thankfully, Suicide Squad 2‘s shooting start date may have given us an idea of when to expect the film. Most blockbusters take about four to six months in production, and another six months in post-production.

Assuming Suicide Squad 2 follows a similar timetable, the film could end up hitting theaters in late 2019 or most likely early 2020. WB actually has a DC film scheduled for February 14, 2020, so I wouldn’t be surprised if Task Force X ends up landing that date.

Were you a fan of the original Task Force X? Well, the cast from the first film is expected to return, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Now, whether that includes Jared Leto is still unclear. Asked by Collider about his return as the Clown Prince of Crime, Leto stated:

"“A lot of moving parts, we’ll see what happens. I think Gavin is incredibly talented, he seems to be the perfect director for Suicide Squad 2. I think he’s a really gifted filmmaker and I really love his work.”"

Given all the plans WB has in place for the Joker, though, we’ll probably see Leto’s Joker make his presence felt in Suicide Squad 2 in some form.

Furthermore, the core Suicide Squad members may not be the only major DC characters that will pop up in the film. In November, The Wrap stated that Black Adam is expected to be Task Force X’s main pain in the neck.

Suicide Squad was heavily criticized for pitting a group of criminals against an ancient force. Given that, the possibility of having Black Adam as their next adversary may give some fans pause. All we can do right now, however, is wait to see how the film turns out and hope that Suicide Squad 2 plays a part in changing the DCEU’s track record.
