3. Rey’s parents are actually nobody

One of the biggest twists in The Last Jedi was finding out from Kylo Ren that Rey’s parents were actually nobody; they were filthy junk traders that traded Rey off for drinking money and are now dead in a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert. This discouraged many Star Wars fans as they spent years theorizing who Rey’s parents would actually be and then they turn out to be nobody important.

Many fans are now hypothesizing that this is a fake-out from Kylo Ren as he is trying to trick Rey into thinking she’s a nobody so he can seduce her to the Dark side, but this is probably not the case. Director Rian Johnson wanted the answer to who Rey’s parents are to be the one thing she didn’t want to hear.

For Luke Skywalker, it was hearing that his father was Darth Vader, but for Rey, it was that they were no one. Also, this just further proves that you don’t have to be a ‘somebody’ to be powerful with the Force. And just like the last scene of the film indicated, there are many other Force users across the galaxy.
