1. Logan
Logan saw Hugh Jackman’s last hurrah as our favorite clawed hero, Wolverine. Directed by James Mangold, the film saw Wolverine many years into the future after many of the mutant population had vanished. With no X-Men and a dying Professor X, Logan presented us with a very different version of Wolverine. He now had to be careful if he ever got in a skirmish, as his healing factor was now diminishing. And now he was the one taking care of Professor X, instead of the other way around.

The film also introduced us to a new Wolverine, X-23, played tremendously well by Dafne Keen. Very much in line with Jackman’s early portrayal of the character, Keen’s X-23 was a wild, unstoppable force in Logan, arguably the best part of the film after Jackman himself.
Logan can be classified as a superhero Western. It definitely had a number of Western characteristics, and of course, the inclusion of Wolverine and others gave it its superhero aesthetic. But it’s the seamless mashup of both genres that will make this film a classic as time goes by. Add to that Jackman and Keen’s performance, plus the tears of emotion you’ll have as the film ends, and Logan is definitely the best superhero movie of the year.
