Spider-Man: Homecoming has a worthy Blu-ray available now.

The newest film, Spider-Man: Homecoming, was one of my favorites this year, and a great addition to the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead of watching the first 10 minutes on repeat, you can now purchase the movie on Blu-ray. I recently purchased a copy and it was one of my favorite purchases in years. It’s something every Marvel fan should buy.

The movie is terrific, as it tells the story of a teenaged Peter Parker who wants to be one of the Avengers, heroes that he always looked up to. Tom Holland has a charming and unique portrayal of the web-slinger. He plays a screw-up with a good heart, who always chooses to do the selfless thing instead of something to benefit him.

Since this movie takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we get to see Robert Downey Jr. reprise his role as Tony Stark, acting like a superhero father figure to him. Captain America also returns in several hilarious cameos. Spider-Man: Homecoming also gives audiences the best villains so far, Vulture, played by Michael Keaton.

One of the best parts about purchasing a Blu-ray was the access to all of the special bonus features, and this movie certainly has plenty. It featured a great gag-reel, showing all of the hilarious mistakes and goofs that happen when shooting a movie. For someone who loves filmmaking, the behind-the-scenes featurettes dives into not only how the filmmakers shot the movie, but the business politics of how this movie came to be.

The best part of this Blu-ray had to be all of the deleted/extended scenes — a must-see for Marvel fans. Although the effects of most of these scenes never finished, it’s a shame that many of these moments did not make it into the final cut. One scene, in particular, gives more details about Damage Control and how it relates to the events of Captain America: Civil War. It also contains a full student news report from Peter’s high school which was absolutely hilarious. The awkward editing, monotone reporting, and technical difficulties that I know all too well from my days in student television production. But the standout scene was the director’s cut of Peter Parker’s opening movie — double the length of what we saw in Spider-Man: Homecoming. I won’t give too much away but will say this: Peter takes his new suit out for a spin after the airport fight, and it’s really great.
