Before Black Panther hits the big screen, let’s look at his greatest allies from the comic books.

The Black Panther is not someone who goes out looking for help. T’Challa is a proud and very stubborn person. This stubbornness has led to T’Challa going it alone. This makes his life harder than it needs to be. But this is also what makes T’Challa a great character. Despite his need to go it alone, there are some people that T’Challa has reached out to for help.

Wakanda has a policy to not let in outsiders. This is a rule T’Challa has broken a few times recently. So, when he goes to someone for help, it’s not done lightly. The funny thing is people drop whatever they’re doing when the King of Wakanda asks for their help. T’Challa has called on Tony Stark, Monica Rambeau, and even Deadpool (he was really desperate). But there are a select few that T’Challa trusts with not only his life, but the lives of others.

6. Wolverine

More from Comics

Wolverine and T’Challa have a very complicated relationship. Both men are proud fighters and hunters. When they meet Wolverine will almost always attack first when they meet. Usually, out the need to prove himself. Most recently, their rivalry has started and ended over the love for the same woman; Storm. Wolverine and Storm have always been more than friends. Before T’Challa and Storm were married, she and Wolverine were dating. Wolverine may not have liked it, but he acknowledged and accepted T’Challa and Storm’s love for each other. Even went to their wedding and had a big smile on his face during the ceremony. Wolverine wouldn’t even attend Jean and Cyclops’ wedding.

After their marriage was annulled, T’Challa encouraged Storm to date again. But he had one caveat, “Not him. Anyone but him.” T’Challa was referring to Wolverine. It’s rare that T’Challa’s pride gets to him. But I guess knowing Storm truly loves Wolverine hit him hard.

When T’Challa needed someone to save a baby from a warring African nation, T’Challa called on Wolverine and Wolverine didn’t hesitate to help. And when Dr. Doom threatened to take over Wakanda, Wolverine was there on the front-line fighting to help save Wakanda. T’Challa may have invited Wolverine to his wedding, but they will never be best friends. At the end of the day, they will have each other’s back and that is all that matters. I can’t wait to see what happens between them now that Wolverine is back from the dead.
