5. Luke Cage
Luke Cage always admired The Black Panther. When he was in jail (for a crime he didn’t commit) he saved a newspaper clipping of Black Panther on his wall. In his cell, he would think of T’Challa fondly because he wasn’t, “…pimping his people, but parlaying and making power moves.” Luke had a hero who looked like him to model himself after. T’Challa was instrumental in Luke becoming a hero before they even met.
Years later during a job protecting a rapper, Luke had to decide whether to protect the client or T’Challa. Luke chose T’Challa because his client was, well, an a-hole. Later, T’Challa would meet Luke and offer him a job. Not that T’Challa needed a bodyguard, but he T’Challa wanted to make up for causing Luke his other gig. Luke accepted and they were immediately attacked by ninjas. This started a bit of a world tour. They went from fighting ninjas in Harlem to China back and then back to America where they fought vampires with Blade and Monica Rambeau.
Ever since then, Luke and T’Challa have had a great and beneficial relationship. They teamed up with Captain America’s resistance in Marvel Civil War and, recently, Luke and The Crew (Storm, Misty Knight) would venture to Wakanda to help Black Panther thwart Ezekiel Stane and his goons. Despite Luke and T’Challa coming from very different backgrounds, T’Challa considers Luke his brother and vice versa. I hope that we get to see the two of them together in the future in comics and in the movies.
