Every X-Men movie, ranked from worst to best
8. The Wolverine
Instead of Fox trying again to pull off Wolverine’s origin story on the big screen successfully, they set this one in present-day Japan, where Logan must reconcile with his past as he fights ninja warriors in the ceremonial garb of the samurai. This movie managed to stay true to the comics, more so than the previous X-Men movies, which is something The Wolverine doesn’t get enough credit for. And it goes without saying that Hugh Jackman gave another compelling performance as the leading X-Man.
Just like how Logan broke the barriers of what a superhero movie can be, The Wolverine is less a superhero movie than it is a Bourne-style thriller. It would probably be one of the better X-Men movies if it was a more confident movie in its execution and if it didn’t fall apart in the last 20 minutes of the movie. So, The Wolverine is a solid addition to the franchise, but it just doesn’t compare to the caliber of some of the other films.
