4. Mr. Freeze

One character that really deserves to headline his own film is Mr. Freeze. When Freeze debuted in 1959, nobody could have expected him to become one of Batman’s richest characters. Originally appearing as the colorful Mr. Zero, the freeze-gun-sporting character was one of the Caped Crusader’s more kooky villains.

However, in 1992, Batman: The Animated Series rewrote Freeze’s origin story and transformed him into a tragic victim of circumstance. Victor Fries was simply a wronged husband, who did everything in his power to save his wife’s life. Not only did this episode make this once-corny character relatable, it won the series an Emmy Award.

This iteration of Mr. Freeze has inspired storylines in The New Batman Adventures, the Arkham video game series, Gotham and was even incorporated into the comics. While the character has appeared on film in 1997’s Batman & Robin, the tragic backstory was undermined by the overly camp production.

However, Mr. Freeze would be a perfect fit for the grim world of the DCEU. There is a ton of Nora-related storylines to pull from and they would all make great compelling narratives on the big screen.

As Warner Bros. seems intent on handing out solo movies to the Bat-Family, not to mention revisiting the Joker ‘s origins, it’s only fair that Batman’s most interesting and underrated character gets one too. This Shakespearean-like villain would be a perfect addition to the DCEU and could give us the franchise’s most compelling film yet.
