5. Solo: A Star Wars Story

I know, I know, Solo isn’t technically a superhero film, but it falls under the sci-fi genre, so it deserves to be on the list. Given the film’s troubled development process, fans wondered whether Solo would be Disney’s first misstep in this new era of Star Wars movies. Fortunately, after months of speculation, the film’s thick layer of mystery dissipated with its first official trailer.

To fans’ surprise, the trailer had a fun, fast-paced vibe, the special effects were on-point, and the action sequences had the excitement and quality we’ve come to expect from movies set in the Galaxy Far, Far Away.

Another significant highlight was Alden Ehrenreich’s Han Solo. While, admittedly, the trailer only gave us glimpses of his performance, the actor perfectly conveyed Han’s roguish charm, as evidenced by his conversation with Emilia Clarke’s Qi’ra. By the end of the trailer, Ehrenreich emerged as one of the standouts of the trailer.

Still, for everything it did right, this trailer lacked that extra awe factor that the first trailers for The Force Awakens, Rogue One and The Last Jedi had. Of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean the movie will be bad, but the trailer overall was still a small step-down from what we’ve come to expect from the Star Wars franchise.
