May 6, 2022: Avengers vs. X-Men

Everything can’t be a sequel, right? If Black Widow arrives in 2020, it would be the only solo film between Avengers 4 and the end of 2020 to not be a sequel. That’s due to the recent rise of Black Panther and Spider-Man, and the conclusion to Guardians of the Galaxy, However, note that from 2012’s The Avengers to the end of 2015, there were just two non-sequel films in the MCU: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Ant-Man (2015).

Avengers vs. X-Men may not appear to be an origin movie, but with the potential debuts of X-Men from the yet-to-be-finalized Disney-Fox deal, there’s a ground-breaking avenue for Marvel to explore and shake up its universe.

Avengers vs. X-Men might resemble Captain America: Civil War. Both sides are heroes, but with different ideologies. The X-Men would be unknown to the Avengers, however, as these mutants could be perceived as threats, despite the desire to fit into society. This could make the government send the Avengers to find the X-Men, and lead to an earth-shaking battle that impacts the MCU.

The X-Men will not arrive overnight, the reason why a projected release date for Avengers vs. X-Men could be in 2022. It’s at a prime spot for movie season, and where Marvel usually places its Avengers films. Will this trend continue in four years?
